Quartz Properties:

Mechanical Properties

Fused quartz exhibits impressive mechanical properties, comparable to other high-strength materials. With a design compressive strength exceeding 1.1 x 10⁹ Pa (160,000 psi), it demonstrates remarkable durability. However, like all glass, surface flaws can significantly reduce its tensile strength, making surface quality critical. When properly maintained, fused quartz can achieve a tensile strength of over 4.8 x 10⁷ Pa (7,000 psi), though a design stress of 0.68 x 10⁷ Pa (1,000 psi) is typically recommended for practical applications. This combination of strength and precision makes it a reliable choice for demanding environments.
